Agency: COLOR Creative
Client: Minecraft
At COLOR, we created a series of 9:16 social videos for Minecraft to be posted on their Instagram. Each video features a short, seamlessly looping story around something in the game — a situation or mechanic that players could experience in-game, or sometimes what we imagine might be going on when players aren’t present. In addition to the 9:16 versions, we also delivered 1:1 crops, so each scene had to work for both ratios.
My responsibilities:
3D Lead on a team of 2-4 3D artists (environment artist, character animator, 3D support)
Research, develop, and track a technical pipeline for getting Minecraft level data into Cinema 4D + Redshift, including unreleased features. I wrote and maintained a technical guide for internal team use.
Coordinate with game capture artists, freelance in-game builder, and editor/colorist
Work closely with our character animator to get his animations from Blender to Cinema 4D
Import, light and animate Minecraft level data in Cinema 4D
Convert Minecraft textures from in-game to brand standard palettes; convert for compatibility with Redshift
Wrote After Effects script to convert animated game sprites to animated textures compatible with Cinema 4D
Balance time working on 6 concurrent scenes
